Ellenboro residents work to rebuild following January tornadoThree weeks after an F-2 tornado tore through the small town of Ellenboro, the community stepped up to help victims get back on their feet. Saturday, hundreds of volunteers braved the rain and helped rebuild a number of homes destroyed during January's storm. Organizers say it is the least they could for their neighbors who lost everything.

Teenage car-jacking ends with police chase, crashA police chase ended with an uptown crash after an apparent car-jacking in southwest Charlotte Friday evening. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say three teenage girls approached a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu on Farmhurst Drive and stole the car at gunpoint shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Employment gains push stock markets upwardSome good economic news came Friday as the unemployment rate dropped to nearly 8.5 percent, while the private business sector added more than 243,000 jobs in January. That good news helped the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which gained 157 points and closed at the highest level since 2008. The S&P rose 19 points, and the NASDAQ was up 46 points.

Officials say light rail safe despite attackCharlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man who robbed a 16-year-old Tuesday night at the Seventh Street Station stop along the light rail line in Uptown Charlotte. The incident happened shortly after 8:15 p.m. A police report said the suspect forced the teen to by a train ticket then took him to an ATM to check his account balance, but the man was not able to get any money.
